Cricket legend Mike Gatting is encouraging teams to keep their hand in during the winter break and enjoy some friendly warm-weather competition at La Manga Club.
The five-star resort is holding its fourth annual charity cricket tournament, in aid of the Lord’s and Lady Taverners, from November 10-16, and the former England captain will be on hand to other his expert advice to those taking part.
The popular event attracts cricket teams from across Europe, and this year has been expanded to become a four-day event.
Packages for players are available from just €299.50 per person and, in addition to a place in the competition, include six nights’ accommodation in the four-star Las Lomas Village; a welcome cocktail reception; a gala dinner and prizegiving event with live music; and complimentary access to Spa La Manga Club’s indoor swimming pool, steam rooms and sauna.
Non-playing spectators are welcome and can enjoy all the social elements of the trip from as little as €267 per person. An optional golf tournament has been organised on one of the rest days, with entry costing €56.
County and international sides use the resort regularly as a warm-weather training base and the addition of two regulation club turf pitches and four full-length nets last year further cemented La Manga Club’s standing as the ‘home of cricket in Spain’.
The Mediterranean climate makes it possible to train outdoors in the sunshine all-year round and La Manga Club also runs a series of popular In-Touch junior cricket academies during school holidays.
The outstanding cricket facilities are just part of the overall attraction of Europe’s number one sport and leisure resort. Three championship golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa complex are just some of the facilities on offer in addition to more than 20 restaurants and bars and a five-star hotel.
